Bethlehem(1877)Welsh Baptist, Miskin Road, TrealawBuilt: 1877 [Sittings: 750]
If one reads the full history of Elim, Primitive Methodist, Trealaw (MGCS 54/23) it is mentioned that their building was originally a Baptist chapel. Unfortunately, someone got ther wires crossed and totally confused the two 'Elims'within the township. Image © Copyright Glamorgan Archives - Reference: MGCS/CS/54.022
Bethlehem was a 'Daughter' cause of Jerusalem, Llwynypia. As there then was only one Baptist chapel in Trealaw it prospered and recorded a membership high of 250 at May, 1905.
However, as with many rapidly enlarged communities, members in lower Trealaw found the location somwhat inconvenient and started a new cause (Ainon) at a more central place.
From then on, and probably due to other general factors, membership fell substantially and was recorded at only 50 in 1930. In 1934 this Baptist church ceased to exist and likewise with many others became an Elim Pentecostal church. Hence the 'confusion' with the other Elim in Trealaw.
Some years later, the vestry was used by the congregation of Seion, Trealaw.
The dwelling that now occupies the site is named 'Elim House' so not even the original name has been handed down.
