Gosen was a 'Daughter' cause of Soar, Clydach Vale. When one assesses the distance to walk as required for those members pf Soar, itself at almost the top of 'Cwm Clydach', and by no means a flat trajectory, it is clear that another cause was required.

When the church was founded there were some 76 members. 71 of thse came from Soar but a few also came from Soar's own 'Mother' of Ebenezer, Tonypandy since I assume that those living in the lower part of the 'Cwm found it more convenient to stay at Ebenezer.
Gosen's longest serving minister was Joseph Walters. Although a native of Carmarthen, he came to Gosen from Stockton-on-Tees. He was to faithfully serve for some 37 years through the heady days of The Revival and the bleak days of the depression.
Gosen's membership plummeted in the late 1950s. And whilst, according to denominational records the church continued until c2004 it is possible that the congregation was then meeting in the adjoining vestry.
The main chapel was converted for residential use and known as 'Llys Gosen'.
