Bethany(1886)English Independent / Congregational, East Road, TylorstownBuilt: 1897 , Extended or Rebuilt: 1912 [Sittings: 350]
In the 1880s Tylorstown's population was rapidly increasing due to the pit sunk by Alfred Tylor. Hence the name of this township. The English-speaking people of Congregational persuasion met at a reading room at what is now East Road and some members of North Street, Ferndale assisted them. It is mentioned that the church initially built a 'Tin Tabernacle' in Edmunds Street which, after the main chapel was built at a cost of ₤1,150, was sold to the Anglicans.
Bethany also joined the newly formed Congregational Federation in 1972.
At the time of the MGCS membership had fallen to only 30 persons and by 1984, when the church ceased to exist, only 20 remained.
The chapel was subsequently demoloshed leaving the barren wasteland as shown in the 2010 photograph and nothing to remind one of what existed in the past.
