Tabernacle(1865) Primitive Methodist, Ystrad Road, YstradBuilt: 1865 [Sittings: 325]
Potentially confusing inasmuch that there were two 'Tabernacles' in Ystrad. This one and the English Baptist ferther down the village. So I guess that this church adopted the pen-name of 'Tabernacle, Carter's Corner' as a means to differentiate between the two. Image by permission of Rhondda Cynon Taf Libraries - Reference: 1763
There is little written history about this cause. And while I state it was built in 1865, the same document states tha it could have been as late as 1875.
Ystrad was severely affected by bombing in 1942 with several buildings, including the library, totally destroyed. The chapel did not excape damage and did not entrirely re-open for services until 1952.
Since the membership details of individual chapels (Wesleyan and Primitive - later to amalgamate) are not known one can not appreciate how this cause faired. But it is stated that when the chapel closed in 1978 membership was in single figures.
