Noddfa(1890)Welsh Baptist, Clydach Road, BlaenclydachBuilt: 1893 [Sittings: 750]
Noddfa was a 'Daughter' cause of Jerusalem, Llwynypia. As with other denominations it was thought neccessary to establish causes in this area due to the quite taxing journey to the flatter parts of The Rhondda. Image by permission of Rhondda Cynon Taf Libraries - Reference: 4077
It is stated that Noddfa had an initial membership of 195. And whilst itself a respectable figure it was soom to grow substantially. Compared with Gosen, Noddfa's membership was more solid as the 70s approached but it is stated that by 1978/79 it was down to some 40 persons.
It is not known when the congregation moved from the old chapel. It's new home was to be the former Unitarian chapel of Bethlehem. What is known is that the chapel was demolished prior to 1972 when the plans for the Bethel Bush Free Mission, built on its site, were submitted to the local authority.
Noddfa's longest serving minister was Thomas Tritos Jones. In later years Noddfa shsred the services of its ministers with Calfaria, Clydach Vale and even Nazareth, Blaenllechau. The last such minister was one C.H.R. Gibbs who charge also included Bethany, Blaenclydach rather than Nazareth. But what is more 'interesting' is that the Rev. Gibbs was the architect/developer of Bethel Bush Mission.
Noddfa disappears from denominational records around 2022 so was one of the last surviving Welsh Baptist causes within The Rhondda.
